What’s in Green Tea Extract?

Green tea extract (Camelia sinensis leaf, 0.1-0.5% caffeine which means it is very low), rice bran, hypromellose capsule shell. It contains at least 98% green tea polyphenols, of which is 80% catechins. Of the catechins, over 60% is EGCG.

Is there any published scientific evidence of a benefit for Green Tea Extract?

What is the recommended dose?

The recommended dose is 1 capsule a day. Do not exceed this dose.

Can Green Tea Extract be taken by people with diabetes?

Yes, it can be taken by those with diabetes.

Can I take in pregnancy and lactation?

No, it is best not to.

What is the recommended age for taking Green Tea Extract?

Green Tea Extract can be taken at the age of 18 and above.

Does Green Tea Extract have to be taken with food?

No, it does not.

What are the side effects of Green Tea Extract?

There should not be any side effects from taking Green Tea Extract as it contains much less caffeine than a standard extract. Very rarely someone may have an allergic reaction and this requires emergency treatment as any other allergic reaction. Do not take Green Tea Extract if you have reacted badly in any way before.

Does Green Tea Extract contain any artificial additives?

No.

Are there any concerns with taking Green Tea Extract while I am on prescription medications?

There are known interactions, however they are lessened by having such a low level of caffeine. Do not take with drugs that can harm the liver (e.g., acetaminophen, amiodarone, isoniazid, methotrexate, methyldopa, “statins” such as atorvastatin and lovastatin), “blood thinners” (e.g., warfarin, lithium, theophylline). Always ask a pharmacist about any interactions before you buy the product.

Are there any concerns with taking Green Tea Extract when having blood or urine tests?

This product can interfere with certain medical/laboratory tests (e.g., chemical stress tests using adenosine/dipyridamole, urine tests for calcium/catecholamines), possibly causing false test results. Make sure laboratory personnel and all your doctors know you use this product.

Can I take Green Tea Extract before surgery?

How long will it take for me to feel the effects of the supplements?
