You might know turmeric as the golden-yellow spice. If your curry powder is yellow there’s probably a lot of turmeric in it! Turmeric contains the naturally occurring phytochemical, curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Curcumin is now very well studied in all areas of health and many hospitals either trial curcumin compounds within their research facilities or recommend curcumin as an alternative to inflammation related pharmaceuticals.
Unfortunately you would need to consume several teaspoons of turmeric powder every day to get the same health benefits, and this for most people is not doable.
A scientific study published late 2023 has found that taking curcumin supplements (derived from turmeric) helps reduce symptoms of functional dyspepsia (recurring, unexplained stomach pain, bloating, or early feelings of fullness).
The researchers randomly assigned 206 people (ages 18 to 70) with functional dyspepsia to one of three treatments: a) taking 500 mg of curcumin (two 250-mg capsules) four times a day, b) taking 20 mg of the medication omeprazole (which reduces stomach acid), once a day, or c) taking both treatments each day.
After about a month of treatment, people in all three groups said their dyspepsia symptoms had improved. The results were even better after two months! The findings suggest that curcumin supplements are as effective at relieving dyspepsia symptoms as omeprazole, and that curcumin supplements are safe and well tolerated.
Curcumin is found in Altruvita’s range as a single supplement or with green tea and vitamin D within Healthy Gut for extra digestive potency.
