Healthy Gut Clinical Trial. What we found, in plain English.

Healthy Gut Clinical Trial. What we found, in plain English.

If you live with IBS, this one is for you.

If you live with IBS, you'll know how much it can impact your day. It affects where you go, what you eat and how confident you feel.

You deserve to know whether a natural option has been properly tested. So we tested Healthy Gut (HG01) in a clinical trial, the same kind of trusted study used for medicines.

The results were presented at the British Society of Gastroenterology's annual conference in 2026. Here's what the trial involved, what it found and what it could mean for you.

You're not alone

IBS stands for irritable bowel syndrome.

If gut problems are part of your life, you're in good company. In a recent survey (link Censuswide) of 1,000 UK adults asked about their gut health:

- More than half (55.5%) have an ongoing gut health issue

- About 1 in 6 (16.3%) live with ongoing diarrhoea.

- Almost half (48.4%) would rather try a natural option before prescription medicine.

If you're one of them, you've already taken an important step by looking for answers.

How the trial worked

The trial was run by The Functional Gut Health Clinic, a specialist UK gut health clinic.

1. All participants had moderate to severe IBS-D, confirmed using the criteria doctors use to diagnose it.

2. They were split into two groups at random. One group took Healthy Gut. The other took a placebo, which is a dummy capsule with nothing active in it.

3. Nobody knew who had what. Not the people taking part and not the researchers. This is called "double-blind". It stops anyone's hopes or expectations from impacting the results.

4. Everyone took two capsules, twice a day, for 8 weeks.

5. Afterwards, the placebo group switched to Healthy Gut. This showed what happened when they moved onto the real thing.

This kind of study is called a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. It is widely seen as the most reliable way to test whether something works.

What's inside Healthy Gut?

Healthy Gut was developed by gastroenterologist Prof. Martyn Caplin and our medical and nutrition team. It contains three ingredients, each with a specific benefit:

- CurcuWIN curcumin. Curcumin comes from turmeric. On its own, your body struggles to absorb it. CurcuWIN is a specially developed form that your body absorbs 46 times more easily than standard curcumin.(1) Curcumin contributes to digestive comfort. (2)

- Low caffeine green tea extract. Green tea helps maintain healthy gut flora, the community of bacteria living in your gut.(2) We use an extract with very little caffeine, so it won't disrupt your sleep or energy.

- Vitamin D3. Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of your immune system.(3)

How the results were measured

The trial used the IBS Symptom Severity Score, or IBS-SSS. Gut specialists around the world use it.

It asks about pain, bloating, toilet habits and how much IBS gets in the way of daily life. Your answers give one number. The higher the number, the worse the symptoms.

The key thing to know: a drop of 50 points or more is the recognised sign of a meaningful improvement.

What the trial found

People taking Healthy Gut saw their score drop by 54.84 points on average, clearing the 50-point mark. People taking the placebo saw no real change.

- Took Healthy Gut: score down 54.84 points.

- Took the placebo: score up 0.3 points. No real change.

- Placebo group, after switching to Healthy Gut: score down 62.57 points.

Why does the placebo result matter? It shows the improvement wasn't simply people expecting to feel better. And when that same group switched to Healthy Gut, their scores dropped too.

No serious side effects were reported during the trial.

Everyone is different and results will vary from person to person. Healthy Gut works best as part of a wider routine that includes a balanced diet
